Water in the hot water heater is potable. Here's what to do:

It looks like Sandy is gonna be a heart breaker. If it gets really bad and your drinking water is contaminated, remember that the water in your hot water tank is potable.
You can access the water by opening the drain valve- do it slowly as water may gush out, see picture.

BE CAREFUL BECAUSE IF YOU HAVEN’T TURNED OFF THE HEAT THIS WATER CAN BE VERY HOT

So I recommend that you also turn off the heating for the tank either by lowering the thermostats if you can or by turning off the control valve. If any of these are rusted and you can’t move them then turn off the gas valve. If you do that make sure you have someone who knows what they’re doing there with you when you need to turn it all back on.

Another thing that you need to do, probably do it now BEFORE the water becomes contaminated, is close the cold water valve. This will prevent contaminated water from entering the tank.

If you do close the cold water valve then don’t turn on your hot water because you’ll empty the tank. You’ll still be able to use the cold water and all the appliances, like the commode etc, that use cold water.

I hope you all stay safe and that we all come trough this healthy and none the worse for wear.

Cheers Chris

With a history of creating design-driven, luxury residential properties in such fashionable areas as TriBeCa and Chelsea, The Vesta Group is now introducing its unique vision for contemporary urban living to the Hoboken marketplace with Vesta Hoboken, a new boutique condominium building located in the Hudson County city’s bourgeoning south side.

Featuring the same level of design, quality and service that has distinguished the signature residential properties throughout Manhattan, Vesta Hoboken represents a decidedly new alternative for area homebuyers that’s further enhanced by the unmatched value it offers relative to the marketplace.

“Our commitment to blending style and substance will help establish Vesta Hoboken as a premiere residential address,” says Marsha LaTessa, a principal of The Vesta Group, which developed the property in joint venture with JESAN LLC.

“Residents will cherish living in one of New Jersey’s favorite cosmopolitan destinations where restaurants, entertainment, business and nightlife are all within walking distance. They’ll also appreciate residing in homes with sleek and modern interiors and a contemporary building that is as dynamic as its surroundings.”

Residences at Vesta Hoboken range in price from $ 690,000 to $ 1,470,000 which includes private parking. The mix of homes comprises generous two- and three-bedroom plans, as well as three- and four-bedroom penthouse duplexes — some with outdoor space and fireplaces.

Residents are be able to enjoy all of the city’s exciting appeal, including a vibrant downtown atmosphere, classic urban charm, extensive public transportation, and a close proximity to Manhattan. The PATH, Ferry and Light Rail are all easily accessible.

“Hoboken is an extremely pedestrian-friendly town due to the close proximity of its wide variety of schools, shops and retail,” notes Ms. La Tessa, “and Vesta Hoboken is well-located to take advantage of everything this great city has to offer.”

With only 16 residences, the building has an intimate and elegant ambiance. Designed by Dean Marchetto Architects PC, the striking exterior is notable for its deep gray brick façade with a reflective gunmetal finish – a contemporary interpretation of traditional Hoboken architecture. The beautifully finished lobby is lined in chiseled white quartz and features Capiz shell chandeliers and Italian flooring with a pale steel patina. Residents will enjoy on-site parking, a private gym, a lounge and individual storage units.

“Vesta Hoboken was the first building in Hoboken with Video Doorman technology,” says Ms. La Tessa. “Groceries, dry cleaning, UPS and Fed-Ex will all be delivered and waiting for you when you get home.”

The spacious two-bedroom/two bath layouts range in size from 1,142 to 1,492 square feet of elegant living space. Amenities include floor-to-ceiling windows, 4 3/4″ wide plank fumed oak flooring throughout the living area, central heating and air conditioning, nine-feet ceiling heights, spacious terraces in select homes, video intercom system, open gourmet kitchens with stainless steel appliances from KitchenAid’s Architect Series II, contemporary white high-gloss cabinetry, and Carrera marble countertops. Sumptuous master bathrooms are clad in limestone and Italian tile with stone flooring and large walk-in showers.

“The elegant duplex penthouses offer from 2,213 to 2,351 square feet of sensational living space, large terraces, fireplaces, three or four bedrooms and three baths,” points out Jackie Urgo, President of The Marketing Directors, Inc., the building’s sales and exclusive marketing agent. “The Vesta Hoboken living environment is crisp and contemporary, inviting and comfortable. Such style and substance promise to make the building one of Hoboken’s most sought-after addresses.”

Be careful of Trulia emails

I’m sure Trulia does its best to police itself and its members but on a site that big it’s easy to let some slip through the cracks. There are of course the misleading and fictional home and apartment listings whose purpose is to drive traffic and clients to the Realtors that listed them. I suppose you can classify those as benign, after all no one really gets hurt and in fact the Realtors who practice this are eventually exposed for the dishonest individuals that they are. Would you trust such a person with to handle what for many is the most expensive asset, your home?
There are however other types of frauds perpetrated trough the Trulia infrastructure that is downright dangerous. Here is an example of one such attempt sent via e-mail.
The email looks harmless enough, after all it comes from Trulia so your guard is relaxed because you know and trust the site.
The subject line states the standard Trulia subject line “Peter Francois found you on Trulia Voices and wanted to drop you a line:”
The body of the email, pasted below, is something else entirely. I can’t imagine that many will be suckered in by this, but there may be other more sophisticated scams being inflicted on the public. I just want to make you aware that they are out there and that you should be careful, just because the email comes from a respected website it doesn’t mean that crooks have not found a way to perpetrate a scam.

Hi, Good Morning,

Please do accept my sincere and profound apologies.I am one of the Managing Directors with Standard Chartered Bank- Republic of Cote d’Ivoire,Few years back I was appointed by the bank management to handle all our Investor’s capital Project Funds which enables me to divert 1.9 Percent of our Investors Excess Return Capital Funds which I later secure in our Magellan Trust Funds Account whereby anyone with a surname as you can be presented to claim the funds as the beneficiary,I believe you have heard or read about bank deal and you do not know how it works probably because you are not a banker, be inform that this is how it work and why allots of bankers now control the business arena and have lucrative businesses worth millions of dollars around the world.

On this note, the total sum of GBP 9.8 Million Great British Pounds Sterling was diverted representing the 1.9 Percent of our Investors Excess Return Capital Funds. The money has been there for some time now and I kept a close eye on it and it is time to move it hence I need a reliable and trustworthy that share the surname as the name I used in securing the money in our Magellan Trust Funds Account to work this deal out with me so that we can claim the funds as mentioned above and share it.There is no risk attached and the funds in question can never be dictated or traced because it is just a pinch from the Investors Return Capital Funds that runs into hundreds of millions of dollars, the program has long been finalized and the case closed but the funds I diverted remain unclaimed.Once we actualize this project and the money gets into your bank account Our sharing ratio will be 60% for me while the remaining 40% for you).

If you see this mail as a scam, spam or hoax – delete it and don’t bother to reply or discuss this matter further but If you have a good conscience and be able to detect that this is a once in a life time opportunity to make wealth please reply and send your direct telephone numbers to me for a smooth discussion and further details for your better understanding.I need this project finalize and the money remitted into your bank account for us to share as soon as possible. This is a clean and straight forward bank deal;it is safe and risk-free, as I have taken care of all necessary steps to ensure a hitch-free movement of the funds.

Remain bless as I look forward in hearing from you soonest.
Best Regards,
Mr. Pete Franois.
